The main feature race on Thursday's card will be the £500 final of the BAGS/SIS 500 race for grade A5 greyhounds over 380m.

The six finalists that qualified from the heats run last Saturday look evenly matched, so on paper an excellent final can be expected.

Two dogs qualified from each of the three heats and, with the winning margins in those races being only one and a quarter lengths, three quarters of a length and a head respectively, calling a winner now is difficult.

The deciding factor in the final line-up now may well come down to the trap draw, so here are my views on the chances of the runners.

Corbally Velvet runs from her favoured trap one, so that is a distinct positive for her.

However, with Miss Messi starting from trap two, she will need to hold the latter to the bend – if she can then she has the fastest win heat time so she would have a great chance.

It is difficult to assess how Miss Messi will trap out of two, as her usual boxes tend to be traps three or four.

On the only two occasions out of 17 races that Messi has started from trap two she was slow away and missed her break, so she needs to improve in that area.

In the wide traps we have Coolasabreeze and Ursa Major in boxes five and six respectively.

Both on their day have reasonable pace to the corner but it may be on this occasion that neither will have quite enough to clear the other runners on the run up.

Coolasabreeze would prefer trap six and the pair may well hinder each other’s chances early on.

Traps three and four have been allocated to Reenview Lotti and Nagrag Joe. I am tempted to tip Lotti, as she is more than capable of winning this. I have to say, however, that it depends largely on which Lotti turns up on the day.

If she has it in her head to run at her best then she will win, but with her it is the case that you pay your money and take your chance.

Nagrag Joe for me could spring a surprise and would be a big danger if leading early on, but I have to go with my instincts and will side with Corbally Velvet to lead from trap to line.

Take note that she was 8-1 when winning her heat at the weekend so I am optimistic that she could still return a decent price on Thursday of around the 4-1 mark.
