Progressive greyhound Cloncool Apache, featured last week, continued his winning ways in a heat of the Bookmakers Afternoon Greyhound Service Easter Bunny event here in an excellent time of 23.52 seconds last Thursday afternoon.

The winners at Crayford of the three competitions being run over the 380, 540 and 714 metres distances will progress to a grand final at Swindon Stadium over the Easter weekend period.

As I had stated last week, Cloncool Apache, trained by Paul Tompsett, came into this event having won his previous two graded races and will soon face top class A1 opposition here at Crayford once his exploits in the Easter Bunny are completed.

He has the speed to win here against the best and looks the type that may progress onto Open class level over the next few months.

The other qualifiers over the 380m distance were Ryves Rock, Droopys Oliver, Ballybane Lena, Impossible Fairy and Spats Colombo.

The main challenge to Apache in the local final will probably come from Ryves Rock and this danger will be further enhanced should Ryves draw his favoured trap one box.

I take the pair to qualify for the Easter final.

The 540m final will be a closer run affair with the three heat winners recording times of 34.24, 34.34 and 34.34sec.

These times were registered by Midian Amy, Puffanomic and Reuben Jay Cee respectively so on paper it looks like the local final is going to be a very close run affair.

This is more difficult to call but I will go with Puffanomic to progress further.

Zenas Peggy trained by Gemma Davidson looks to have the 714m event at her mercy after recording a win time of 45.47 in her heat victory last week.

Karma Carly won the other heat in 46.15 which equates to some eight and a half lengths slower than Zenas Peggy.

This was only the second time that Peggy has raced over this extended distance, her first effort on Boxing Day gave no indication of her ability as she was badly crowded throughout that race.

She should qualify easily and should give a good account of herself at Swindon on our behalf.

On the graded race front, my dogs for you to follow are Move Over Kaka and Fernhill Fury.
