Puppy Popalong Benji has made an eye-catching start to his career here at Crayford.
After a winning debut in grade A7 over 380m, he was upgraded two levels to A5 and in his first effort at this level, failed by just half a length to register a brace of wins.
He was beaten on this occasion by Stewart Albert, who I tipped two weeks ago, so in my books this is an excellent form line for Benji and he has a real chance of success based on this form.
I have often advised column readers to follow tipped dogs for more than one race. This was borne out yet again with the following dogs, tipped in my last three issues, who all managed to win twice since their inclusion here – Black Mix (9-4, 9-4), Stewart Albert (2-1, 4-1) and Munster Lady (9-4, 5-2).
Unluckiest loser at the weekend may have been Cassie The Flyer. Having started her career here at A6 level, she was dropped after her first race down to A7which she duly won.
Her return, in only her third race at the track, back to A6 saw her trapping out in only fifth place but her early pace enabled her to go into the first turn second and she continued to improve to lead the field from halfway.
She was caught in the home straight losing by a length and a half but I don’t think it will take her long to win in her current grade.
Like all new dogs here, Future Vote is still learning how to run the track but is looking a likely winner in the next fortnight after a second place finish last Friday night.
Similarly to Cassie, he was dropped down a grade after his debut race and fared much better as a result at the weekend. He is now in the right grade to win.
Finally, watch out for Contagion.
He never looked in danger when winning at only the second time of asking, recording a time, in bottom grade A8, which looks good enough to see him continue to progress.
