Farnalough Rose made a promising debut at the weekend for trainer Paul Tompsett when only beaten by a length and a half by seasoned campaigner Triggers Pint.

The latter had too much know-how for the youngster but it was an impressive effort given that she incurred bumping at the first bend.

Early days for her but take note this was her seventh outing at the track, including trials, and each time she has reduced her clock times.

I think that this will continue and should be good enough for a win in current grade A8.

Another debutant, Axminster, went one better, winning at odds of 7-4 favourite which was interesting given that the dog took seven trials to grade onto the race card.

Clearly they had done their homework and the dog’s win time of 24.04 is more than quick enough to overcome an upgrading. He looks a nice prospect at 18 months of age and his show price next time may be your best guide to his chance of a quick double.

It is always nice to be asked by dog owners to feature their dog in the column so I am happy to oblige the connections of Bannside Terry this week.

With two wins and two seconds from seven races here, all over 380 metres, the dog has won at both A6 and A5 levels and, with a 23.85 seconds win time on his card, it is only a matter of time before he adds an A4 victory to his achievements.

The dog joined trainer Barry O’Sullivan’s kennels late last year, having won three consecutive races at Drumbo Park in Ireland over 480 metres.

I have watched the video footage of an earlier race he had over that distance at that track and he looks to me as if he would get the 540 metres here well.

Food for thought for the gents of the Team Dave Syndicate. He may well surprise you, lads.

He is guaranteed to trap out last – that’s just his style – but he runs on so well given a little leg room, which he failed to get last time out. I know that he was fancied to win and I expect him to do the business on his reappearance
