Oakwood Azul and Malachys Gold are setting the pace on the winners’ front this month with both greyhounds having won twice in five days.
Azul is a decent grader who when allowed to dictate affairs is difficult to beat and with three wins and four runner-up finishes this year from 11 starts, she has certainly been in good form.
She is equally effective over both 540 and 714 metres and the question now has to be whether there will be another win to be had from her this month. Debatable but with her you just never know.
Malachys Gold has made an early impact here for trainer Steve Gammon. With only 10 career races to date, the dog has settled in well at Crayford registering three wins from five starts which is an excellent strike rate for a newcomer.
The dog had won two races previously at Tralee in Ireland before joining Gammon’s kennels and what is clear is that the dog possesses bundles of early pace which will always prove to be a big plus at this track.

His latest win over 380m showed that he is also more than capable of winning from behind having progressed from third place early on in his latest race to get up on the line. So far he has won in grades A5, A4 and A3 and I would not be at all surprised if he will reach top grade A1 soon. He is definitely one for the notebook.
It is always nice to see the offspring of previous Crayford racers appearing on the race card, such is the case at the moment with the puppies of Walk The Line.
She won the 2007 Ladbroke Golden Jacket – the track’s and one of the sports most prestigious races – and the owners of her pups will be hoping that their dogs are as good as their illustrious mother.
They have like all youngsters taken a little time to get the hang of things but are now starting to show signs that there will be wins to come from them.
Trycycle won her first race last weekend at the fifth time of asking but the manner of the win and accompanying time would indicate that she may well repeat the feat again, albeit against better opposition.
Keep an eye also on litter sisters Stayinbythewall and We Never Knew who look likely winners to me at the moment. These pups were also bred by trainer Patsy Cusack who handles Trycyle, and although unrelated to her, they are three nice prospects.
