Motorists are used to sitting in traffic during rush hour – but that’s not all that’s causing delays for road users.

Below are some of the major roadworks that could affect your journey in the coming weeks…

M2 and A249

Motorists are being told to expect delays as work on the major Stockbury flyover project enters its final year of work.

There are several closures on the A249 between Sittingbourne and Maidstone for the latest phase of the multi-million-pound Stockbury roundabout revamp.

The A249 Maidstone-bound is closed from the Stockbury Roundabout to Church Hill, along with the M2 junction 5 London-bound exit slip, until 5am on Saturday, March 30.

This is to allow contractors to build the new A249 carriageways to the south of the roundabout.

Later in the month National Highways will be closing the A249 Sheppey-bound between M20 junction 7 and the Stockbury Roundabout overnight on Thursday, March 28, and Friday, March 29, between 8pm and 5am each night.

Access for residents of the A249 Detling and Stockbury will be maintained from the M20 junction 7 during the closures.

A diversion is in place via the M20, A229, M2, and A249, non-motorway traffic is to use the A249, A229, A2 and A249.

When the road reopens at 5am on Saturday, March 30, both sides of the A249 will be open.

A 50mph speed limit is also in force on a section of the M2 as improvements are carried out.

National Highways started work on drainage and safety barriers between Junction 5 near Sittingbourne and Junction 7 at Brenley Corner in Faversham in January and the works are set to last until the summer.

Between Junctions 5 and 6 there are now narrow lanes on the coastbound stretch, and this will be replicated between Junctions 5 and 7 from next Thursday, as well as a reduced speed limit.

The narrow lanes will be towards the hard shoulder at first but in mid-April, they will be moved towards the central reservation.

This is to allow improvements to the drainage and barriers on the hard shoulder.

Overnight on Sunday, March 17, part of the M20 will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following day.

The closure will be in place in both directions from junction 7 to junction 9 so National Highways can undertake improvement works.

M25 and A282

Until Thursday, March 28, there will be overnight closures from 10pm until 5.30am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on the A282 northbound Dartford Crossing West Tunnel.
