Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has taken to the continent in a bid to unearth new talent.
Hessenthaler (pictured) is attending an under-20 tournament in Seville as he casts his net wide in a bid to rebuild.
The Gills have already benefited this season with a recruit from Spain as Paulo Gazzaniga was signed after his release from Valencia's youth team.
First team coach Nicky Southall was holding the fort while Hessenthaler was on scouting duties.
Southall said: "We need to have a look and we are searching far and wide. If we can get another couple of rough diamonds like we have with Paulo then that's what we have to do.
"We are out there and we are looking and planning ahead."
