Andy Hessenthaler believes the unity in the changing room helped them see off Cheltenham on Saturday.

With five wins from the last six games and the club on the verge of the play-off positions, things are going nicely for Hessenthaler’s side.

"That was right up there (with the best)," said the Gills manager after Saturday’s win.

"To go to Cheltenham, who are doing so well this season and to score three and keep a clean sheet, says it all. The dressing room is so together at the moment and they want to work really hard to achieve something this season and I thought they were exceptional, not just the 16, but the 18.

"We brought two kids with us Alex Brown and Callum Davies. They missed out but it’s all part of the squad and everyone was terrific.

"We limited to them to about one shot on target in the second half from the lad McGlashan, who Danny Jackman played very well. He is a handful and is quick, but Jacko had him and credit to him.

"Simon King and Connor Essam were facing a difficult task against their striker Darryl Duffy, who backs in and makes it hard. They, along with Matt Fish, who was coming back for his first game in a long time, were tremendous.

"In front of them the midfield put in so much work and we saw the best in Oliver Lee."

The Gills won the game despite missing 10 senior players through injury or suspension.

"It was a concern with the amount of players we had missing but I felt the dressing room was right and we are so much together as a group of people, even the ones who weren’t there.

"We really want to achieve something this year. It didn’t surprise me that we got a result."
