Andy Hessenthaler tips Charlie Lee to retain Gillingham right-back berth
08:00, 02 December 2011
Charlie Lee is set to resume right-back duties again this weekend and manager Andy Hessenthaler insists he could be the man to fill the void permanently.
Hessenthaler has tried several players in that role since Barry Fuller suffered a season-ending injury in September.
Lee, 24, played in that position in the 3-2 home win over Bournemouth in their FA Cup first round replay.
It is a position the player is familiar with having previously played at right-back for Peterborough.
With Fuller out and Matt Fish still struggling to win a regular spot in the side, Lee (pictured) could be the answer.
Hessenthaler said: "Charlie has probably had his best two games at right-back. He could play there regularly if he keeps doing what he has done."
Last weekend Matt Lawrence covered that position but will miss out this weekend through suspension.
