A Minster resident is furious that even more rubbish has been dumped at the cliffs in Oak Road, Minster.

There has been a problem with fly-tipping in the area for many years and on Monday afternoon Sheppey RSPCA chairman, Angela Walder, found a whole new batch had been dumped.

She cleared some of the rubbish and came across paperwork that contains clues as to where it may have come from.

The most recent lot of rubbish to be dumped includes huge cans of cooking oil, takeaway plates and food.

Angela said: “Half the rubbish has gone down the cliffs and is sitting down there rotting – it stinks.

“It will increase the number of rats and all the holiday makers going for walks will come across it, it’s an appalling example.”

Angela phoned Swale Borough Council to inform them about the rubbish, and they are in the process of investigating where it may have come from.

A spokesman for the council said: “The council always investigates these cases and has prosecuted businesses in the past for fly-tipping. “Once we have gathered the evidence and made enquiries, the matter will be considered for prosecution.”

The council also wants to make it clear that it is the responsibility of each individual and business to make sure waste is disposed of properly.

Their advice is to either dispose of it yourself at the tip or use a registered waste carrier to do it, and to always ask waste carriers for their carrier number or phone the Environment Agency on 08708 506506 to ask for a waste carrier validation check.

If your rubbish ends up being fly-tipped, you will be held responsible, prosecuted by the council and face a fine of £5,000.
