KentOnline readers can now keep up to date with the county's latest news as part of a free entertainment and information service appearing on Southeastern trains.

The new bundle of digital content for passengers who log onto the train network's Wi-Fi will give them access to TV shows like The Grand Tour and The Man In The High Castle through Amazon Prime Video.

The service, called Southeastern Motion, will also feature eBooks and audiobooks by Rakuten Kobo, podcasts, magazines and news feeds, with featured local news coming direct from KentOnline.

The service is accessed via Southeastern’s free on-board WiFi, launched earlier this year across all routes.

As it is hosted directly on the train’s server, streaming will not be interrupted by tunnels or cuttings.

It is initially available on board selected trains on routes between Kent, East Sussex and London.

It will soon be available on Metro routes across south east London as well as Highspeed routes.

Diane Burke, commercial director for Southeastern, said: "We always aim to do more for our passengers and wanted to take our free Wi-Fi offer one step further when we began rolling it out earlier in the year.

"Motion will offer TV programmes from Amazon Prime Video and e-books and audiobooks from Rakuten Kobo – the first such partnerships of their kind anywhere on a UK transport network.

"“We know that people use their time spent travelling on our trains in different ways, whether that’s helping them prepare for work with the latest news or introducing a new box set into their evening viewing.

"We hope that Motion will offer something for every passenger and make their journey more enjoyable.”

Highlights of the content offered by Motion, which will be refreshed regularly, include The Grand Tour and The Man In The High Castle on Amazon Prime, Dara O'Briain's Go 8 Bit on UKTV as of next month, e-books including Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman, magazines such as BBC Countryfile and Cosmopolitan and podcasts such as Anger Management with Nick Clegg.

The Financial Times will follow the KM Group to provide news feeds in November.
