KENT Police's serious collision investigation unit today appealed for information following a crash which claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

Three vehicles, the victim's Suzuki 1400cc motorcycle, a Renault Megane and a Seat Ibiza, were involved in the tragedy at Cuxton, near Rochester, on Monday afternoon.

Police say the man who died was aged 58 and came from the Northfleet area. He was in collision with one car and then became trapped underneath another.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said firefighters had used airbags to lift the vehicle from the trapped motorcyclist.

Police sealed off the main road through Cuxton as emergency crews dealt with the incident. The accident happened at about 2.40pm on the A228 betweeen Bush Road and Sundridge Hill.

One fire crew from Medway was sent to the crash scene, opposite the council recycling centre.

Police at the scene stopped all traffic and pedestrians, including many schoolchildren, from approaching the accident, on the brow of Sundridge Hill. Large traffic queues built up on either side of the crash scene.

The road was still closed at 5.30pm while crash investigators examined the scene of the accident.

Anyone who saw the collision, or the circumstances leading up to it, is asked to to get in touch with the police witness line on 01622 798538.
