Appeal after teenage girl dies in road tragedy

POLICE today renewed their appeals for information about a road accident which claimed the life of a 19-year-old girl.
The young woman had just got off the bus at the top of Star Hill, Rochester, and stepped into the path of the van.
The victim has not yet been named but she is believed to be from the Rochester area. She was struck by a white Ford Transit van at about 3.30am on Saturday. It was being driven by a 17-year-old youth from Dunkirk, near Faversham.
A spokesman for Medway Police said: “When officers arrived at the scene they tried to resuscitate the girl before ambulance staff rushed her to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham.
“The girl’s mother managed to get to get to the hospital just after the crash but unfortunately the girl was later pronounced dead.”
