BRITISH Transport Police are appealing for help from the public in identifying a man suspected of racially abusing a female commuter on a rail station platform.

BTP PC John Coombes said the incident happened at St Leonards Warrior Square Railway Station in Sussex in January when the woman approached a male commuter to ask about train times.

He said: “The woman claims she was then verbally abused and felt intimidated when the man went to to toe with her.

“Police have conducted numerous appeals at the station to try and garner any witnesses to the incident and, after trawling CCTV of the incident, we believe the man pictured may be able to assist us further with our inquiries.

“Police are eager to resolve this matter as the victim has been left shocked and upset by this encounter.”

The male is described as white, of medium build, and about 5ft 10in tall. He is thought to be aged about 60.

He was wearing black shoes, black trousers, a black top and a light coloured coat and a hat. The male also wore glasses.
