Arson probe after flat blaze

An investigation has been launched after a suspected arson attack in a flat in Chatham on Sunday evening .
Firefighters were called to a ground-floor flat at Magpie House, Gundulph Road, at about 9.20pm where they found a settee alight.
Crews from Strood were called to the three-storey building after people living above the ground-floor flat alerted the emergency services after the fire alarm went off.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “There was no one in the flat when we arrived, but the occupants of the above flats had got out of their properties.
There was a small fire in the settee in the flat, but it had emitted lots of smoke, we got it outside and made sure the flat was ventilated, we were no the scene for about an hour.
The incident is being investigated by Medway Police. Two people have been arrested.
