Boy of 13 charged with raping man

A 13-year-old Kent schoolboy has been remanded in custody by a court accused of raping a man.

The boy, who lives Chatham but cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before magistrates at Medway youth court.

He is also accused of carrying out a series of other offences, including assault, burglary and incitement of theft and robbery.

The teenager, who is not 14 until the end of the year, has been remanded in a secure unit until Tuesday (July 20) when he will again appear at Medway Magistrates' Youth Court.

He is accused of a series of offences, including two counts of rape on a man over the age of 16 dating back to last month.

Malcolm Dodds, area director of legal services at Medway Magistrates' Court said: "He appeared on a series of charges and I can confirm he has been remanded into secure accommodation until he will appear again on July 20."

Det Sgt Kerry Rothwell said: "I can confirm that a 13-year-old from Chatham has been charged with a number of offences, including two counts of burglary and two counts of raping a man 16 or over, common assault and incitement."
