Burglars being targeted in police crackdown
00:00, 14 August 2007
POLICE across the county have launched a campaign to reduce burglaries.
The crackdown will see officers out on operations targeting known and suspected criminals.
As part of the drive, they will be carrying out high profile patrols in areas with higher burglary rates. They will also be offering advice on how people can keep their homes and belongings safe.
Leaflets are available from police stations telling homeowners how to keep out intruders.
Det Insp Dave Berry, in charge of reducing burglary in Medway, said: “We do not underestimate the upset that being a victim of this crime can cause and that is why we are keen to arrest suspected burglars and to ensure residents do everything they can to prevent being targeted.
“There are a few simple steps people can take to reduce the risk of a burglary, including keeping your windows and doors shut at night, making sure ladders are locked away and investing in security lighting."
He stressed: “We will continue to use all the powers available to us to put thieves before the courts.”
