Walking brazenly down the street in the middle of the day, this pair of heartless thieves are caught on CCTV with their loot from a raid - a puppy and a safe.

Lucy McNaught, 21, was left devastated after discovering her Staffordshire bull terrier puppy Rocco, given to her by boyfriend Jake Lal for Christmas, had been stolen from their home in Lancelot Avenue, Strood.

As reported in last Friday's Medway Messenger, burglars smashed their way in with a rock on the morning of Wednesday, January 19.

They snatched Rocco and, using a spade taken from the couple's own garden, smashed a safe off their bedroom wall.

Now Lucy is hoping this new CCTV image, captured by a neighbour's camera minutes after the theft at about 10.20am, will lead to her puppy's safe return.

A hooded man can be seen cradling Rocco, while his accomplice leans back under the weight of the safe containing items including an iPhone, camera and passport.

Posters of Rocco, pictured left, have now been put up around Medway. A Facebook group called "Who Stole Rocco?" had about 400 members this week.

Rocco is mainly tan and has a white left paw and black marking around his nose and mouth.

He also has three patches on his back where his fur had to be trimmed.

Anyone with information should phone police on 01622 690690.
