A car crashed through the window of a town centre business - sparking a huge response from emergency services.

Police, paramedics and fire crews descended on Herne Bay High Street at about 11.15am today, before closing the route in both directions.

Footage shared by passers-by on social media show a vehicle had crashed through Partners Hair Studio's shopfront.

Jacqui Delbaere, who owns nearby store the Little Green Bookshop, heard a “really loud crash and bang, along with the sound of smashing glass” when the incident occurred.

“I thought ‘what on earth is that’, went to the door and saw that a car had gone straight through the window of Partners across the road,” she told KentOnline.

“It was really shocking. People immediately started to gather.

“I was thinking there could have been someone – like a young lady pushing a pram – in front of Partners at the time.”

Ambulance service officials confirmed its teams were at the scene "assessing two female patients".

A police spokesman says the pair “sustained injuries not believed to be serious”.

And a witness – who wished to remain anonymous – believes “it was a Christmas miracle” no one was badly hurt.

“The street was shut for a good hour, hour and a half,” she said.

“Lots of people gathered and were watching and filming.

“It was a Christmas miracle nobody was injured because where the car ended up is literally where they do the hair-cutting.”

Photographs show only a small part of Partners’ shopfront now remains following the crash.

Wires could be seen hanging from its damaged ceiling, while smashed glass and debris remain inside the wrecked premises.

A police spokesman added: "Two people sustained injuries not believed to be serious.

"Road closures were in place while the emergency services assisted with the incident."

Officials from the fire service say crews were called to the scene of a collision "involving a car and a building".

"One fire engine was at the scene," they said.

"Crews were helping to make the scene safe."
