Card payments have crashed across multiple supermarkets today.
People wanting to purchase items using Visa cards have been facing difficulties since this morning.
Customers at Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s have experienced difficulty paying.
The issue is also affecting people shopping in McDonald’s, Primark and Marks and Spencer (M&S).
One person in Folkestone said on Facebook: “Card machine nightmare today.
“Make sure you get to a cashpoint [as] Asda has gone down and so has most of Park Farm - Sainsbury’s, Home Bargains and McDonald’s confirmed so far.”
Hundreds more have commented on social media saying they are also unable to purchase goods, with Mastercard users also reporting the issue.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s replied to one customer on the company’s X account, saying: “Sorry about the card payment issues.
“Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
“We are continuing to monitor all further comments and information regarding this at the moment.”
A Visa spokesperson has confirmed it was aware cardholders are experiencing issues when making payments.
They said: "While Visa's systems are operating normally, we are working with our partners to investigate.”
Meanwhile, Mastercard said it was "aware of some payment transaction issues at select merchants in the UK" and was working to gather more information.
