'Carol singers' steal pensioner's purse

00:00, 28 November 2003

A PENSIONER had her purse stolen by two people who knocked at her door posing as carol singers.

The 73-year-old woman, who lives in Wyndham Road, Chatham, was tricked into letting the pair into her home at about 7pm on Saturday.

A woman and a teenage boy knocked on the victim’s door and asked her for a glass of water. The pensioner invited the pair into her home and gave them a box of Maltesers.

Shortly after they had left, the victim realised her purse, which contained cash and credit cards, had been stolen.

The woman who stole from the pensioner is described as being aged about 40, brown hair, of big build and not very tall. She was wearing a white button up jumper and a light coloured knee length skirt.

The boy is aged about 2 or 13, about 4ft tall with a round face and short brown hair. He was wearing a short sleeved shirt and khaki trousers.

Medway Police would ask anyone who may have information as to the identity of the suspects or who have been visited by them to contact Det Con Alan Downs at Rochester Police Station on 01634 884002 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
