Hearing the fans cheer after my goal against Stevenage last Saturday was music to my ears.

I know it took a slight deflection, but my shot was going in and it only hit the defender about a yard away from the goal-line – you’ll have to come to my house to get that off me!

The reception from the fans was important because I know I hadn’t scored for a while. They could have easily become frustrated or wanted someone else to play, but they’ve stuck by me and I appreciate that so much.

It’s one of the reasons that I’m very happy at the club, and let’s hope it sparks a bit of a flurry of goals now.

I actually had mixed emotions after the match because I missed too many chances for my liking, but I was nonetheless happy to score.

I’ve got an excuse for the header in the first half, though. I’ve always said that I’ve got a peanut-head, so I can’t always get it on my forehead because there’s not a lot to aim for!

That said, I feel I should have scored the lob over the goalkeeper in the first half, because that’s the sort of chance I normally finish.

The players have been great because they’ve continued to support me, and I think you could see that with their reaction when I scored. They know I’ve been struggling, but they’ve kept telling me that it’s going to come and to just keep doing the same things.

The worst person to deal with has been my daughter. I would have liked to have gone home and been able to brag about a few more goals, because she always asks me if I scored after every game. For the last dozen games or so, I’ve had to tell her ‘no’!

I must pay tribute to my strike partner, Yann Kermorgant, as well, because no defender likes playing against him and he makes my job much easier.

If you look at my game, I just gamble off his flick-ons or when he gets hold of it, which he does most of the time because the guy is a beast.

On Tuesday, we took the opportunity to equal the club record of 12 away wins in a season by beating Chesterfield.

It shows how successful we have been so far, and we knew early on last summer that we had a decent team. But we know that there is still a long way to go. We want to win the league, but automatic promotion is the first target, and we are concentrating all our efforts on that.
