Cheers: Paving the way for new pub
13:00, 15 September 2013
Work is under way on a new pub and restaurant which being built alongside one of the county's biggest business parks.
Marston’s Inns and Taverns was given permission to start work by Tonbridge and Malling council earlier this year on the land alongside the Maidstone 20/20 Business Park.
The pub will seat up to 180 people and have parking spaces for 60 cars.
It is near Allington incinerator, a railway line and the A20, but its entrance will come from St Laurence Avenue.
A beer garden and play area will be built to the south of the site, close to the railway bridge, and pedestrian access will also be available from the London Road.
Around 30 full-time jobs will be created at the pub and restaurant. However, not everyone is happy with the plans.
Cllr Dan Daley (Lib Dem) said “It’s a catastrophe that one of the little bits of green we have, and a divide between Maidstone and Tonbridge and Mailing, has gone.
Land on the other side of the railway bridge, named Bridge Nurseries, has been earmarked for development and could see 165 new homes built.
