Climate campers to target incinerator
12:08, 01 August 2008
Environmentalists are to lay a wreath at the controversial Allington incinerator this afternoon.
The action is part of a week long protest by climate campers against plans for a new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth, north Kent.
Joining them at the incincerator will be members of the Maidstone Green Party, who have long been outspoken critics of the waste-burning plant.
The incinerator is one of a number of sites being targeted by the climate campers as they make their way to Kingsnorth.
Although the direct emissions from Allington are likely to be lower than those from older incinerators, the Green Party claim dangerous chemicals are still produced by incineration.
