Home Secretary Theresa May remains the favourite among MPs to become the next Conservative party and Prime Minister.

Mrs May topped the second round ballot today and will face Andrea Leadsom in the run-off which will see every Conservative member being able to vote.

In the second round of voting Theresa May secured 199 votes; Andrea Leadsom got 84 and Michael Gove came in third and was eliminated with 46 votes

The Home Secretary has received the backing of 13 Kent MPs and is widely regarded as the favourite to take the crown when the final result is announced in September.

Andrea Leadsom was one of the key figures in the Brexit campaign, alongside Boris Johnson. She has faced accusations that she has embellished her CV.

Kent MPs have voted overwhelmingly to back Mrs May, with 13 saying they support her.

Greg Clark (Tunbridge Wells); Tom Tugendhat (Tonbridge and Malling); Charlie Elphicke (Dover).

For Andrea Leadsom: Julian Brazier (Canterbury); Gordon Henderson (Sittingbourne and Sheppey).

Craig Mackinlay (South Thanet) is undecided.
