Given the divisions within his own party, it is not much of a surprise that Jeremy Corbyn's offer to become the equivalent of a caretaker football club manager to sort out Brexit has failed to win much support from the other parties.
Even the most vehement remainer MPs outside Labour would baulk at the idea of giving him a short term tenancy at Downing Street as the leader of a national government.
The idea of a political conditional offer to voters, pledging to hold a second referendum after a general election already looks like falling flat.
However, it does seem increasingly likely that there will be a vote of no confidence in the government at some point and with the parliamentary arithmetic as it is, an evens chance at least that it could pass.
Meanwhile, our revelation that customs checks could be carried out on HGVs at the Manston airport site has been condemned by Labour shadow transport minister Andrew Macdonald, who said: "These plans would cause a massive amount of disruption to people in the surrounding areas and wreak havoc on our economy at a huge cost to the taxpayer.
"The Government should not be wasting money planning for a no deal Brexit that would be disastrous if implemented."
