Kent is poised for more snow showers this weekend as temperatures plummet across the county.

The mercury has been holding up this week, with temperatures hovering around the average for March at a rather pleasant 14 or 15 degrees.

But as the weekend arrives, gardeners should expect frost and there could even be the odd flurry of the white stuff.

Met Office forecaster, Dave Britton, said he was going to a wedding in Tunbridge Wells at the weekend and was expecting to have to wrap up warm.

"It's certainly going to turn colder as we go into the weekend and we may see a few wintery showers around," he said.

"However, we are not really expecting any significant snow further south than East Anglia and any showers will probably be more sleet than fully-formed snow.

"It will really be nothing to write home about."

Meanwhile, Kent's amateur weatherman, Frittenden sheep farmer Lester Gosbee, said he too was expecting to have to wear an extra layer on Sunday and Monday.

"We have all been enjoying some warm days but Arctic air is on its way for the weekend," he said.

Mr Gosbee said spells of warm sun and temperatures of between 16 and 18 degrees today will give way to a drop in temperature of between six and eight degrees on Saturday.

On Sunday, a bitter northerly wind will most likely bring hail and sleet showers, he added.

Next week also looks like being a chilly one, with temperatures unlikely to go above 12 degrees.
