Campaigners and opposition politicians have welcomed news plans for a Kent Estuary airport have been scrapped.
MPs last night voted to go ahead with a multi-billion pound expansion of Heathrow - kicking the Boris Island idea into the long grass.
An airport off the Kent coast has been mooted for years with possible sites off the coast of Sheppey, Gillingham and the Isle of Grain discussed.
