Last season’s player-of-the-year Danny Jackman is hoping his decision to stay at Gillingham is rewarded with promotion.

Jackman, pictured, signed a new one-year deal at the start of the summer and, after twice narrowly missing out on the League 2 play-offs, it will hopefully be a case of third time lucky for the 29-year-old.

"It was good to get (the deal) done and get another year here," said Jackman.

"I feel I have a bit of unfinished business to carry out after coming here firstly in League 1 and then going down. I wanted to try and get us back up to League 1 but I have another year and we will see how it goes.

"There were a couple of other clubs interested in me but things didn’t work out and in the back of my mind I knew they wanted me here for another year or so and I had already half-turned my head towards this."

Jackman re-joined the club for the 2009-10 season – having clocked up 73 league appearances between 2005 and 2007 – but his first season back at Priestfield was ravaged by injury.

The following two campaigns under Andy Hessenthaler saw the Gills finish eighth in League 2 – missing out on the play-off places on both occasions.
