Patience is the key for Danny Spiller, insists Gillingham physio Steve Allen.
Spiller has been out with an ankle injury since mid-September but Allen doesn't want him rushing back and doing more harm.
He is now hoping the midfielder could be fit for selection this coming weekend, when the Gills travel to Burton.
Allen said: "He ran with me and did some CV work. He is fine and I don't see any problems with him coming back towards the end of the week for selection against Burton, if required.
"He is a couple of weeks later than expected but sometimes you have to take a step back when things don't settle down. It won't take him long to get back but he needs to condition his body back to playing.
"The last thing we want is for him to go back to training too early and then he picks up another injury and he is in my earhole.
"We don't want him having three months off and then doing his hamstring so we have to be a little patient."
