The KM Group's editorial apprentice has missed out on meeting David Cameron – but still savoured his once-in-a-lifetime experience inside Number 10.
Dan Wright, 19, traveled to Downing Street to represent the company and joined youngsters from across the country for a special reception to mark National Apprenticeship Week.
The Ashford teenager rubbed shoulders with Chancellor George Osborne – who gave a speech on the training scheme – and even met Larry, the famous Downing Street cat.
He was due to meet the Prime Minister, but Mr Cameron was diverted to Brussels for an emergency EU meeting about the Ukraine crisis.
But Dan said: "It was a great experience to actually go through the gates and into Downing Street.
"To represent the KM Group at an event like that, after only starting in September, is very rewarding."
Since starting his role with the KM Group, Dan has been an integral part of the company's Kick Start Kent campaign, which aims to get 100 companies to take on an apprentice this year.
"It's great to see that apprenticeships are getting the credit they deserve," he added. "They offer a fantastic way to learn as you are developing your skills on the job.
"It was a shame the Prime Minister wasn't there, but you can't complain as just getting inside Downing Street is a massive achievement.
"You certainly can't be there every day, so I took in every moment – including the very fancy food – and even met one of the street's famous cats."
The KM Group is highlighting the benefits of hiring an apprentice with its Kick Start Kent campaign, aiming to get 100 companies to take on a young person. For details, click here or email kickstartkent@thekmgroup.co.uk.
