The barricades to the main gates to Climate Camp finally lifted earlier today as more than 1,000 protesters began a slow march to Kingsnorth.

Dressed in bright costumes they waved colourful banners and sang as they made their way up Dux Court Lane, towards Hoo.

Police carried out random searches as the eco-campaigners, including families with children passed the checkpoint at Deangate Ridge.

The parade were held here a short time as police moved in to block off roads and stop traffic on the A228.

Organisers were given the nod shortly before 9.30am disagreement over the route caused tension to rise.

Police were adamant that protestors would take their choice of route through Hoo village.

Police horses and a line of officers lined the beginning of the route and after around half an hour of waiting the protestors were allowed onto the A228 to begin making their way to the power station.

A police van led the way followed by more police horses and officers who were keeping the protestors from spilling out at the sides.

The traffic was allowed to move on and local residents that had gathered to watch the march moved away.

It took the parade more than two hours to reach the gates of power plant followed by a rally.

This ended peacefully, but police later stepped in to move around 20 people who held a sit-down protest outside the Kingsnorth gates.
