Donation was a few noughts short
00:00, 07 March 2002
THERE was a buzz of excitement in the air around the villages of Appledore and Brookland, near Ashford, when parishioners read that a generous benefactor had donated £120,000 to the church.
Unfortunately, the thrill was short-lived as it was soon discovered that it was all down to a typing error in the parish magazine and that the real figure was somehwhat smaller - £120.
The Rev Lindsay Hammond said: "Luckily it was only in the Appledore magazine but I have been running round telling people it was a mistake. Still £120 is no kick in the teeth and we are very grateful."
