Dover Athletic turn down Gillingham's bid for striker Adam Birchall

Adam Birchall celebrates Dover's FA Cup win at Gillingham last season.
Gillingham have had an offer for Adam Birchall turned down by Dover.
The Gills made their move on Friday morning in what was described as a "joke bid" by Dover chairman Jim Parmenter.
Birchall, who scored 46 goals last season for Dover, had a transfer request rejected earlier this week while his club have already turned down an offer from Newport for his services.
Mr Parmenter told Dover's website: "I've told Paul Scally to stop wasting my time. The figure is not only derisory, but he wanted to make the payments in two installments.
"To be frank, it barely covers a taxi ride from Dover to Gillingham! It's a joke bid and clearly a tactic to turn Adam's head.
"If Mr Scally, however, really wants to sign Adam then he should come back to me with a much bigger bid - and not two tiny installments."
Mr Parmenter disclosed that Gillingham bid was several thousands of pounds less than the one Dover rejected from Newport.
