A new poll has revealed a Kent landmark as one of the seven wonders of the UK.

The research carried out by OscarUK.co.uk, a concessions website for the over-50s, revealed the White Cliffs of Dover as the second greatest wonder of this country.

Only Stonehenge tipped the Dover landmark off the top spot.

It comes as a quarter of those surveyed revealed they're more likely to be visiting the famous cliffs, and other British beauty spots, than topping up their tans on foreign shores.

Peter Simpson, managing director at OscarUK, said: "Last year, the number of people from the UK choosing to holiday at home rose by more than 17 per cent, and this year looks set to top the trend.

"Those feeling the financial squeeze are choosing to shun an overseas trip in favour of staying at home and enjoying the best this country has to offer."

The top seven wonders are as follows, according to the survey:

3) Cheddar Gorge

4) The Giant's Causeway

5) Loch Lomond

6) Snowdon

7) York Minster
