Gillingham will face familiar foes after they were drawn at home to League 1 rivals Southend in the FA Cup first round.
It means that Friday's league clash between the sides at Roots Hall will have added spice in what is effectively a dress rehearsal for the cup game, which will be played on Saturday, November 7 unless it is rescheduled for television.
Charlton were handed a tricky visit to Blue Square North Northwich Victoria and have their reputation - as well as a place in the second round - at stake as they have never lost to a non-league side in the competition.
Blue Square South side Bromley are another non-league side with the chance of an upset. They will host Colchester, of League 1.
