ARTIST Anthony Schrag is hoping his latest high profile escapade will be a big hit in Margate - he is offering himself as a "human punchbag" on the main sands on Saturday (Feb 20).
The Zimbabwean has made a career producing work that "explores the body as a tool of communication" and "celebrates physical challenge."
As part of the Dead Season-Live Art programme by Limbo Arts, he will take on all-comers in single-bout wrestling contests in a colourful striped tent on the winter shoreline, which he has constructed in homage to legendary seaside puppet entertainer Mr Punch.
He explained: "For me, Punch is the symbol of joyful disorder - the moment when we lose our heads and reject the drab order and bureaucracy of the everyday."
Limbo Arts say the punchbag project is a way for people who are fed up with their lot, the weather, the recession and their home town to "direct their feelings of disappointment and negativity somewhere constructive."
Limbo add: "For one day only, Schrag will be your human punchbag because he wants to see you smile and sweat.
"He is fed up with culture that plays it safe and offers cerebral solutions. He is far more interested in making a direct physical connection with his audiences, even if it means he ends up pinned to a wrestling mat."
That's the way to do it!
Anthony Schrag's 'Wrasslin'' punchbag tent runs from 2pm to 4pm.
