Kent weather: Flooding predicted across Kent with rivers Medway, Darent, Bourne, Beult, Eden, Brook and Teise expected to overflow after heavy rain

Torrential downpours throughout the day have left rivers across Kent at breaking point.

The Environment Agency has issued eight alerts for flooding from 11pm.

Flooding is possible for:

  • The River Darent from Westerham to Dartford, including Brasted, Sundridge, Chipstead, Dunton Green, Otford, Eynsford and South Darenth between 5am and 10am, with high levels expected until lunch time. Low lying land in Shoreham, Sundridge and Westerham is at particular risk.
  • The River Bourne from Hadlow to East Peckham, including Golden Green and Little Mill from 11pm until tomorrow afternoon. Flooding of roads and low lying land is a possibility at any location near the river around Hadlow, Little Mill and East Peckham.
  • The Rivers Eden, Eden Brook and Kent Ditch from Blindley Heath to Penshurst including Edenbridge and Hever between 11pm and tomorrow evening. Flooding of roads and low lying land is a possibility at any location near the river around Haxted Road, Edenbridge, Hever and Penshurst.
  • The River Beult from Pluckley and Bethersden to Hampstead Lock at Yalding, including Smarden, Headcorn, Collier Street, Benover and The Lees between 11pm and tomorrow evening. Flooding is not expected to reach Yalding until tomorrow evening. Flooding of roads and low lying land is a possibility at any location near the river around Bethersden, Smarden, Headcorn and Yalding.
  • Communities on the Great Stour from Charing Heath to the A2070 including Ashford, communities on the East Stour, communities on the Whitewater and Ruckinge Dykes and the Aylesford Stream. Flooding of roads and low lying land is a possibility at any location around Sellindge, Mersham, South Ashford, Kingsnorth and Willesborough, and this is expected between 11pm and tomorrow afternoon.
  • The River Medway from Hampstead Lock at Yalding to Allington Lock, including East Farleigh, Wateringbury, Teston and Teston Park, Tovil and Maidstone including Millennium Park between 1am and Saturday morning.
  • River Teise area from Lamberhurst to Goudhurst, including the River Bewl and tributaries of the River Teise. Flooding of roads and low lying land is a possibility at any location near the river around Lamberhurst and Goudhurst, and is expected between 11pm and Friday evening.
  • The River Medway from Forest Row to Penshurst, including Ashurst. Flooding of roads and low lying land is a possibility at any location near the river around Forest Row, Ashurst and Penshurst, and is expected between 11pm and tomorrow evening.

Peak levels will be similar to those experienced last month. River levels may rise again over the weekend with more wet weather due on Saturday.
