Well, that was fun while it lasted.

If you hadn’t already guessed, it’s April Fool’s Day and anyone playing along would’ve noticed it’s now after midday – bringing all tomfoolery to a close for another year.

Across the county, pranksters and hoaxsters have been having a field day posting ridiculous claims – some of which have bordered on the believable.

Did you fall for any this morning? Here, we round up the best April Fools pranks in Kent this year.

KentOnline decided to have some fun with our readers off the back of a real news story from last week about the ongoing traffic gridlock plaguing roads in and around Sittingbourne.

We suggested plans had been drawn up to trial a nationwide first - a flying taxi.

We told readers the groundbreaking technology using “FOOLS software” and “battery-powered aviation” hoped to allow motorists to bypass the lengthy queues and endless roadworks by flying across the sky.

However, as most of our readers figured out, it was of course, not true. We’re sorry, residents of Sittingbourne!

And we were not the only ones to have a little fun.

Wards estate agents released the above video revealing its “latest promotion” in which homeowners can win a free dog when selling up.

Keith, from Ashford, was apparently the first lucky winnner, who was surprised on his doorstep with his new furry friend Rufus.

Maybe a more obvious spoof, but good production value nontheless!

Elsewhere, Iliffe and Iliffe Estate Agents in Faversham dreamed up a “new announcement from the Duchy of Cornwall”.

As part of the royal estate’s 2,500-home development in Faversham, it was said “20 replicas of Buckingham Palace” would be built, each boasting their own ballroom and throne room - complete with thrones!

The new owners of the exclusive homes would also receive a year’s supply of Duchy of Cornwall Shortbread Biscuits.

Well, they would if it was true.

Rochester Cathedral also announced it was planning to replace its stained glass windows with UPVC double glazing as although beautiful, it was getting “draughty” and the cost of maintenance was too high.

The tongue-in-cheek statement added: “We would be foolish not to do this as it will be more energy efficient and cost-effective - a great move for Rochester Cathedral in the 21st Century. Thank you to A.F.D Glazing for supporting us in this project.”

Maybe KentOnline’s effort was not that original after all, as Leeds Castle also revealed plans for the “world’s first flying car experience” where visitors could soar above the historic building in the summer.
