Manager Martin Allen wants Gillingham fans to put the weekend chores on hold and be at Priestfield to see the club kick-off their new League 2 campaign.
The Gills host Bradford on Saturday and Allen has urged the fans to get behind his new-look squad.
Allen (pictured) said: “I can’t think of anything worse, going shopping, washing the car or cutting the grass. It should be an absolute joy to leave the house and get away to watch us on what should be an exciting day for all our supporters and one we are looking forward to.”
Expectation levels may have been raised after the midweek win at Bristol City but the Gills boss warned: “The Bradford game will be completely different to the cup tie.
“I watched Bradford on Saturday (when they won 1-0 at Notts County) and they thoroughly deserved to win.
“I know they were spying on us in the week. They have got some good players and it will be a tough game."
Jack Payne looks doubtful for the Bradford game after suffering from tonsillitis but left-back Joe Martin should return after he was given time off due to the birth of his baby.
