Schools in Kent have been targeted by "threatening" emails saying there is a bomb on site.

Kent Police revealed they are dealing with a number of reports of emails warning of explosives in schools.

Officers say they are treating the messages as a hoax.

Chief Superintendent Tim Smith said: "Today we were made aware that a number of schools in Kent had received a threatening email.

"The message is being treated as a hoax with schools across the country receiving similar emails.

"The matter is under investigation."

It is not yet clear how many schools have received messages, but it comes as hundreds of classrooms across the country were evacuated for the same reason.

It has since emerged a feud between rival Minecraft gamers could be responsible for the threatening emails.

Emails were reportedly spoofed to look like they had been sent by a gaming network known as VeltPvP.

It is a Minecraft player-versus-player server - a type of server run by businesses that sell items in-game to players.

The emails were designed to result in the domain being suspended for abuse.

Those involved in the conflict have reportedly claimed their opponents had engaged in illegal activities to harass each other.
