Bradley Dack scored four goals in 10 minutes as Gillingham thrashed the Royal Engineers 7-1 on Wednesday night.
The pre-season friendly at Priestfield formed part of the club’s centenary celebrations after changing their name from New Brompton 100 years ago.
But the night belonged to third year scholar Dack (pictured), who last season smashed 26 goals in the youth team from midfield.
Prior to the game manager Martin Allen had praised the youngsters pre-season form and would have been thrilled to see that good run continue.
Allen named a strong team to face the Engineers and handed a debut to Tommy Forecast, after the goalkeeper arrived from Southampton to start a season-long loan.
The Gills also handed another chance for trialist midfielder Ryan Gilligan.
Dack opened his account on 32 minutes to put the Gills ahead after heading home Jack Evans’ cross. He made it two four minutes later after a lay-off from Ben Strevens.
The hat-trick was complete on 41 minutes with a shot from just outside the area and he made it 4-0 a minute later, tucking the ball home following Charlie Allen’s pass.
The Gills added another from the break as Adam Birchall netted his first goal at Priestfield.
On the hour manager Allen completely changed the team and shortly after that they conceded.
Gills’ sixth goal arrived on 69 minutes through Danny Kedwell and the rout was complete as Charlie Lee volleyed home in the final minute.
Gills starting XI: Forecast, Evans, Carter, Payne, Hare, Davies, Allen, Gilligan, Strevens, Dack, Birchall.
Gills (after 60 minutes): Nelson,.Fuller, Martin, Frampton, Essam, Lee, Whelpdale, Montrose, Brunt, Jackman, Kedwell.
