Gillingham's assistant manager John Schofield is glad to be sticking around after recent interest from a Championship side.

Just days after joining the Gills the UEFA Pro Licence coach (pictured) was being courted by a higher league team.

He is staying put at Gillingham, however, and is happy to commit to the League 2 club's promotion push.

He said: "There was interest and if people ask about you, you are always flattered, because it is nice for people to court your goods or wares, whatever you bring to the table, so it is nice to have that recognition.

"But it is about being happy at your place of work. I'm not for one minute saying I wouldn't have been happy somewhere else but I have also made a commitment here to the football club and likewise the club has made a coimmitment to me.

"I have worked with the gaffer before and I was very excited about what we are building here. That was it, it was an open and shut case. It was nice but I am quite happy."
