Gillingham complete deal for defender Joe Martin
16:57, 25 May 2011
Andy Hessenthaler has made his first signing of the summer after Joe Martin agreed terms on a two year deal.
Martin (pictured) was one of five out-of-contract players that the Gillingham manager offered a new deal to at the end of last season.
The left-sided player joined for the second half of last season on non-contract terms and did enough to convince Hessenthaler to hand him a permanent position in the squad.
So far he is the only one of the five players offered a deal to have agreed to stay.
On Wednesday Northampton Town signed Adebayo Akinfenwa and Andy Barcham has also rejected the chance to stay with the Gills.
The club are still waiting on Kevin Maher, who is due back from a break soon, while Chris Palmer is still weighing up his options.
