Gillingham defender Barry Fuller faces further checks to diagnose a troublesome knee injury.

The Gills were delivered a blow last week, with the news that Danny Spiller would be missing until the New Year due to an ankle injury, and Fuller’s injury is also proving troublesome.

An operation was initially ruled out for Fuller (pictured) but he is due to meet a knee specialist in the coming days to see if the injury will keep him out short or long-term.

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler said: "The specialist will have another look at the scan because we are concerned with the bone bruising inside the knee. There is also a little problem with the posterior cruciate.

"If it is only bruising and he needs an injection then he will be back in a week to 10 days so we are not sure on that one."

Fuller has been out since the win over Hereford in mid-September. Spiller will need an operation to repair his damaged ankle.

Hessenthaler will now be anxiously waiting on news from Charlie Lee after the midfielder limped out of the match against Port Vale on Saturday with a knee injury.

"I don’t think there has been a game gone by this season where we haven’t picked up an injury," said an exasperated Gills manager.

"It was a bit like that at the start of last season. Every team has problems and you need to deal with it.

"Charlie thinks he has picked up something with the knee and we will have to assess him."

Danny Jackman (knee) failed a fitness test on Friday and Andy Frampton (calf) also missed out at the weekend but both could be back for the trip to Torquay on Saturday.
