Matt Lawrence admits Gillingham are under-achieving after the club suffered their fifth league defeat of the season.
A 2-0 defeat at Swindon on Tuesday night left the promotion-chasers sitting ninth in League 2.
Lawrence (pictured) said: "With the strength of our squad, the people in the dressing room and the manager we have, we should be further up the league. We all know that.
"That’s for us to put right and move on to Morecambe on Saturday, get at least a point and be hard to beat. I don’t think we are hard enough to beat at the moment.
"We are not getting the results we should be and it’s hard to put a finger on why."
Lawrence conceded that the Gills were their own worst enemies on Tuesday after missing several good chances.
He said: "If you don’t take your chances, then that’s what happens sometimes."
