Peterborough are being linked with a big money move for Gillingham’s Argentine goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

The former Valencia youth player was attracting attention from a host of Premier League teams last season but Darren Ferguson’s Championship side are being tipped to make the first move.

Ferguson is in the market for a keeper following the departures in the last month of both Joe Lewis and Paul Jones.

Gazzaniga (pictured) has a year left on his Gills contract and the club were hoping to tie him on a longer-term deal after an impressive stint between the sticks at the back end of last season.

The club’s director of football Andy Hessenthaler recently labelled the 20-year-old as a ‘million pound keeper’ but the Gills would be unlikely to attract that sort of money for a player with just 22 first team appearances to his name.

The Gills have been expecting offers this summer, with Hessenthaler recently saying that they would not stand in the youngster’s way, if a bigger team came in for him.

Gazzaniga was voted as Gillingham's young player-of-the-year for the 2011/12 season, after claiming the number one jersey from Ross Flitney.
