Andy Hessenthaler admits it is "doubtful" Gillingham will be able to bring West Ham striker Frank Nouble back on loan.
The frontman enjoyed a successful three-month stint with the Gills but has since been on first team duty with the Championship side.
Gills boss Hessenthaler had hoped to bring the 20-year-old back to Priestfield during this month’s transfer window.
Nouble (pictured) played 90 minutes and scored in the Hammers’ 2-1 defeat at Derby and came off the bench during Monday’s 1-0 win over Coventry.
Hessenthaler said: "We should take a bit of credit for that, not just me as a manager, but the team.
"We have played a part in his development but he has done a lot of it himself. As for him coming back, it’s pretty doubtful."
