Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is closing in on a Championship striker.
Hessenthaler has been keen to bolster his attacking options ever since he lost summer signing Adam Birchall to long-term injury.
He won’t reveal his target, for fear of his transfer being hijacked by rival teams, but believes everything is in place to do a deal.
The loan transfer window opened on Wednesday and the only thing Hessenthaler is waiting on is whether the player says yes or no.
He said: "The lad we have identified we like and we think we can get him. We can get it done but it’s a matter of whether he wants to get it done.
"He might see himself at a better level than ourselves and that’s the problem you have when you are in League 2."
Hessenthaler has also identified a couple of targets from League 2 but tempting clubs to do business could be tricky, he admits.
"There is one from the Championship and a couple from our division," he said.
"Whether they would let them on loan to another League 2 club is a different story and they are actually playing so it’s very unlikely, but you never know."
