Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler expects to be without Chris Palmer and Kevin Maher next season

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is pressing on with his summer transfer plans with the assumption that both Chris Palmer and Kevin Maher won’t be at the club next season.
Both players were offered new contracts at the end of the last campaign, but Palmer is looking for options in the Midlands and Maher’s agent is still on the hunt for a better deal – at the Gills or beyond.
Hessenthaler isn’t waiting around for answers.
The Gills boss said: "We understand players and we just have to keep working hard on the ones we are trying to bring in.
"Chris’ agent has indicated that because his wife is in the Midlands it looks like he isn’t going to be here.
"We haven’t heard anything back from his agent and when we did speak (to the agent) he said Chris wanted to be up near his family.
"It is about location with him and that’s where he came from. That’s fair enough, no problem.
"Kevin’s agent has spoken to the chairman and so I don’t really know what is going on with that one to be honest.
"It maybe a little bit over the money situation but I am not 100 per cent sure. There is nothing concrete on Kevin."
Do you think Gills would miss Palmer and Maher should they not return? Have your say below.
